Presentation Summary: This presentation will focus on how the City of Philadelphia used evidence-based innovation in tackling the evolving challenges in responding to the overdose crisis. Participants will learn about novel interventions implemented from the outreach street teams to the acute care hospital, nursing homes, and drug & alcohol treatment providers. Participants will gain insights in the complex intersection of housing, behavioral health, physical health, and criminal justice reform.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will:
  • Identify system gaps that pose a barrier for people who use drugs (PWUD) in accessing care.
  • Describe how principles of disaster preparedness, learning communities and implementation science principles can be utilized to design, implement, and evaluate an innovative model of care to meet the needs of PWUD.
  • Explore evidence-based pathways for novel programs to meet the evolving environment of the drug crisis.
