Maurice Dematteis, MD, PhD, is a neurologist and Professor of Addictions and Pharmacology at the Grenoble Alpes University and University Hospital, the Grenoble Faculty of Medicine, and the Grenoble Institute of Neuroscience (INSERM U1216), France. He is the founder and Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Addictions which is specialized in the outpatient care of severe dual disorder patients, including chronic pain patients, using pharmacological and non-pharmacological dimensional approaches. He serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the French Alcohol Society and its representative at the French Federation of Addictology, Administrator of the National Academic College of Addictions Teachers, the French Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and the Professional College of Actors of the Hospital Addiction Medicine. MD participated in various multicenter studies and numerous national and international educational initiatives and congresses regarding alcohol (AUD) and opioid use disorder (OUD). He contributed to the French recommendations regarding diagnosis and treatment of AUD, he leaded the first European consensus for buprenorphine and methadone in OUD and served as expert for the Interministerial Mission for Combating Drugs and Addictive Behaviors (MILDECA), the French National Authority for Health (HAS) (French recommendations regarding proper use of opioid medications: analgesia, prevention and management of OUD and overdoses), the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM), the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA, USA). He co-organized in Grenoble the 14th European congress on opioid addiction (EUROPAD, 2021). Since several years, he has integrated families and relatives into patient support through a specific training, and the expert patient into patient support and student training. Awards over the past years include the nomination as Honorary Member of the World Association on Dual Disorders (WADD), the Chimera Award by the European Opiate Addiction Treatment Association (EUROPAD) and the Nyswander/Dole "Marie" Award by the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) for its commitments in opioid addictions.
