Dr. Onate completed his medical degree at the University of Arizona, his Internship at the University of California San Francisco, and his residency in psychiatry at the University of Arizona. He was awarded the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Charter Fellowship in 1991. Dr. Onate worked with the University of Arizona College of Medicine as the house staff counselor for almost 20 years and chair of the physician well-being committee for almost 10 years. He opened his own MAT clinic in 2005 and has been medical director at several Tucson agencies including SAMHC Crisis Center, Cottonwood de Tucson and CODAC MAT 24/7 from 2017 -2023. He currently is CODAC’s Best Practices and Innovations Consultant.
