Alan Nolan, LCSW, Director of Clinical Operations, at Connecticut Counseling Centers, Inc., has over 35 years of experience in substance use and mental health treatment across both corporate and nonprofit sectors. A Syracuse University graduate and MSW recipient from SUNY Albany, Alan has led clinical program expansions and provided corporate consultation on behavioral health systems and strategy.
Before his clinical career, Alan cultivated an early foundation in computer science and information systems, coding with programming languages such as DOS, ANSI BASIC and FORTRAN, and exploring human–technology interaction in operant conditioning labs. Alan received the Outstanding Paper (Cognitive Behavior in the Land of Frobozz) Award, at Utica College of Syracuse Universities’ first Undergraduate Psychology Conference for his work on AI and human cognition. Alan was also appointed Assist Systems Operator (Sysop) in the Psychology Department’s Laboratory, where the BBS (Bulletin Board System) where the intercollegiate, pre-internet computer communications systems were established. His early dual fluency in technology and human behavior continues to inform his present work.
As an author and thought leader, his current work explores the ethical integration of behavioral science, neuroscience, and various AI technologies in addiction treatment—with a focus on AI alignment, relational intelligence, compassionate systems design and preserving human dignity in with the emerging neural architectures and the unique features of current AI models and inter-system designs.
