Presentation Summary: The ongoing opioid crisis requires immediate action to improve treatment accessibility for individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). This presentation will emphasize the importance of expanding methadone treatment through Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs) within residential facilities, a vital strategy that significantly enhances client access and outcomes.

The integration of methadone treatment within residential settings creates a comprehensive "one-stop-shop" for clients, facilitating their recovery journey. By providing seamless access to methadone alongside inpatient residential care, this initiative aims to enhance the overall treatment experience. It seeks to reduce stigma and eliminate logistical challenges that often accompany external treatment sites.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will:
  • List and describe at least four key benefits of integrating OTPs within residential programs, including how it reduces stigma and logistical challenges, as demonstrated through a group discussion.
  • Explain how the presence of OTPs in residential settings contributes to improved recovery outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders, as measured by their ability to articulate at least two specific positive impacts during a follow-up Q&A session.
  • Assess how OTPs enhance access to treatment for individuals in residential programs, identifying at least three logistical or systemic improvements, as demonstrated through a collaborative brainstorming activity.
