Presentation Summary: Co-Occurring Disorders such as Attention-Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) frequently co-occur, yet their treatment can be complex. Over 15 million U.S. adults have ADHD and more than 1/2 of adults with ADHD (55.9%) received their diagnosis during adulthood (CDC 2024). ADHD symptoms often contribute to substance use, adding complications when integrated with OUD treatment. Many lack training on how to effectively address both conditi. This presentation will explore evidence-based approaches for assessment and treatment, strategies for balancing medication management, and key considerations for special populations to improve outcomes for those with both ADHD and OUD.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will:

Verbalize common co-occurrences of ADHD and OUD.
Describe to patients an Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale screener (ASRS) and conduct a cultural formulation interview for those in special populations.
Apply evidence-based assessment and treatment strategies for those with co-occurring ADHD and OUD.
