Presentation Summary: This presentation will focus on defining Complex Trauma and how a history of Complex Trauma continues to have negative physiological, psychological and interpersonal effects as adults. These individuals are at high risk to engage in dubious problem solving, utilize self-sabotaging strategies to avoid emotional distress, and employ impulsive faulty decision making, all of which exacerbates their already chaotic internal and external worlds putting them at risk for opioid dependance. For these reasons complex trauma survivors present unique treatment challenges for MAT programs. Psychotherapeutic approaches to treat complex trauma survivors in MAT programs will be summarized.
