B3 - Mobile Narcotic Treatment Programs: Expanding Opioid Treatment Access in Correctional Settings

Presentation Summary: This workshop will explore the ‘Mini Mobile’ Mobile Narcotic Treatment Program, a cost-effective solution that delivers methadone to individuals at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The mobile program expands access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) in correctional settings, providing a scalable model to overcome barriers to treatment. Participants will learn about the program’s development, operational structure, regulatory considerations, and financial benefits, as well as how it can be adapted to other jurisdictions.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will:
  • Identify key considerations for implementing a mobile MOUD program, including regulatory, operational, and logistical factors.
  • Analyze the financial benefits and cost savings of mobile NTPs versus full OTPs in correctional settings.
  • Evaluate how the ‘Mini Mobile’ model can be adapted and scaled to meet the opioid treatment needs in other jurisdictions.
