AATOD Presentation Topics
Patient Care & Best Practices We are requesting submissions on evidence-based innovative and creative interventions, best practice models for treating opioid use disorders (OUD) and concurrent medical and psychosocial issues for patients in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs. We are interested in submissions that focus on the development and maintenance of partnerships designed and intended to meet the special considerations or adaptations of treatment strategies for diverse groups such as LGBTQIA+, ethnic minorities, undocumented patients, youth, pregnant persons, and our aging population. Of particular interest is strategies to address fentanyl and stimulant use in MAT programs and mobile MAT initiatives. Additionally, we are requesting submissions that address how partnerships provide opportunity designed to increase access to MAT in underserved areas. Feedback from prior conferences indicates that participants want to learn about ways to improve patient engagement and retention, end premature discharges, reduce stigma and discrimination, and incorporate holistic or new and alternative modalities for healing. Past participants also expressed an interest in both research and application/skill development-based presentations.

Community Partners & the Continuum of CareSubmissions that address building effective community partnerships are welcomed and encouraged. We are requesting submissions on effective models integrating MAT and the criminal justice system, drug courts, law enforcement, hospital emergency departments, primary care, community-based healthcare providers, local social service departments, child welfare agencies, the faith community, family members, and community groups. The research tells us that stigma and misinformation regarding MAT for opioid use disorder are among the biggest barriers to patients accessing care. It is also often a barrier to service integration and building effective community partnerships. Presentations that focus on reducing stigma have been requested by conference attendees for the past several years.

We continue to invite submissions with a focus on improving public policy and legislative advocacy efforts, working with federal regulatory agencies, State Opioid Treatment Authorities (SOTAs) and other regulators all with a focus on improving access to treatment and patient care. With the ever-changing health care market and changes in funding, many organizations face daunting fiscal challenges. We are seeking submissions that address regulatory and funding changes as well as financial challenges.
AATOD’s work with international partners enables us to see the increasing scale of global impact of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) including but limited to meet growing demand for treatment and the ongoing need to participate in the development of universally accepted policies designed to promote standards that are both evidence-based and consistent best practice.
